George Onyango: Turning Oil Drums into Eco-Friendly Furniture

George Onyango is a 23-year-old entrepreneur with a vision to upcycle metallic oil drums into eco-friendly furniture.

With an appreciation and love for the environment, Onyango does not like seeing people cut down trees. That concern led him to think about alternative sources for his products.

His love for art and innovation prompted him to transform metallic oil drums into something productive. He started Jus Drum Furnitures in 2018 and sources his materials from Gikomba, a local market in Nairobi.

Onyango chose oil drums because they have a unique look while reducing wood use in furniture production. His made-to-order products include seats, tables, and shelves.

His venture has created employment, broadened his thinking, and spurred creativity. His long-term plan is to expand his brand across Kenya, reach international markets, and create more employment for young people.
